Below is what multi-spectral capture means in practice, what shows up in the software, and a sample report you can review.

The idea
Multi-spectral sounds technical, but the idea is simple: the drone uses more than one camera. The Mavic 3M has a regular color camera plus smaller sensors that capture other light bands. Think of a phone with several cameras on the back — each lens has a job.
Because those sensors all take pictures as we fly, an Advanced Field Analysis job collects much more imagery than an RGB-only Field Checkup. That means slower flights, more processing, and a larger dataset to review on-site (or host online as an add-on).
In the fields we’ve flown, the same kinds of growth issues often show up in both RGB and multi-spectral views. We offer Advanced Field Analysis when you want the multi-spectral indexes and that fuller dataset — not because we’ve proven it always sees more than RGB.
In the software
Multi-spectral capture gives PIX4Dfields more light bands to work with — and more imagery means more data to analyze. On these maps, each pixel’s color is a simple way to read plant response across the field (vigor and stress patterns show up as color differences).
Start with a normal orthomosaic (true color), then switch through color band schemes (false-color composites): three bands are assigned to red, green, and blue on your screen so near-infrared and other bands become visible as color — not a magic filter, just a different way to look at the same flight.
Next come vegetation indexes calculated from those bands, including NDVI, GNDVI, SIPI2, NDRE, MCARI, and LCI. Each index scores every pixel, then paints the field so patterns are easy to scan. For deeper definitions, see Pix4D’s guides (open in a new tab).
